About Gasolímetro
Gasolímetro is a free tool built by Indomit Studio to work out what a car journey really costs.
It started with a simple problem: most calculators just multiply the distance by the fuel economy in the brochure, and the answer nearly always comes in too low. On the road, the average car uses noticeably more fuel than its official figure, and the type of road, the load, the air conditioning and traffic jams all make a difference too.
What makes Gasolímetro different
- It adjusts the official figure (WLTP or NEDC) to real-world consumption, using data from the European Commission and the ICCT.
- It works out town, country roads and motorway separately.
- It adjusts the result for load, passengers, air conditioning, open windows and traffic.
- It gives you a likely range rather than a falsely precise number.
Where the data comes from
- Fuel prices: Spanish Ministry for the Ecological Transition (Geoportal de Gasolineras).
- Exchange rates: European Central Bank.
- Routes and distances: OpenStreetMap, Photon and OSRM.
- Consumption factors: studies published by bodies such as ORNL, the ICCT, EMPA and the ADAC.
